Design, Illustration, Artwork, etc.
I’ve managed and worked with amazing designers and illustrators who are way more talented than me. That said, I have created some stuff myself. Here’s a sampling.
Cruise Moab
I’ve been involved with the artwork for Cruise Moab since 2003, working with a handful of artists to create unique artwork every year. In 2018, I created the artwork myself. This started as a photo I shot of Dale Barker’s FJ45 pickup truck on the Kokopelli Trail.
The patch design came out nice as well, with the silhouette of Delicate Arch in the background.
TLCA dash plaques
An annual tradition dating back decades. It’s a fun exercise to do something new every year. These are the years that I designed.
TLCA “TEQ-style” logo
Inspired by the classic TEQ logo from the 1960s, I created a new design for TLCA to be used for t-shirts, stickers, and other merchandise.
New color version of original TLCA logo
The original TLCA logo was borrowed (with permission) from Downey Off-Road back in 1976. There’s a lot of love for the old hand-drawn FJ40 in the logo, but it needed an update from the blue & white tires and the indistinguishable 40 bezel. This update brought the logo back to life.
Over the years, I’ve done a lot of this kind of work, fixing and breathing new life into an older design. My updated version is on the left.
Rising Sun forum & logo header
I updated the colors of the Rising Sun forum and created a new version of the classic Rising Sun logo with more impact to use as the header of the forum.
Rising Sun home page
The old web page dated back to 2002 or so, and was sorely out-of-date. The new home page works much better on mobile phones, too! See it live here.
50th wedding anniversary design
We were holding a family reunion & celebration for the 50th wedding anniversary of my in-laws, Jim & Kat Hakanson. This t-shirt design features the names of their 3 adult children and spouses, 7 grandchildren, and a few family traditions thrown in for fun. This is one of my favorite things that I have ever created.
Cruise Moab 2019 sewn label design
We did a waxed canvas tarp giveaway at CM2019, sponsored by Adventure Tool Company and Slee Off-Road. This was my design for the Cruise Moab label for the tarp.
Here’s what it looks like sewn out (a few years later after plenty of usage):
Cruise Moab 2019 print ad for Toyota Trails
I took the photo, designed the logo type, wrote the copy, and did the layout/design for the ad.
Rhodeworx! logo
I entered a logo design contest (and didn’t win). However, I thought the logo I created was tons of fun.
